North Eastern MPs push for increased funding for Garissa University

Garissa Senator Abdulkadir Mohamed Haji, along with fellow members of parliament, actively lobbies for enhanced financial support to address the university's pressing infrastructure and programmatic needs.

Highlighting Garissa University's significance as the sole institution of higher learning in the region, Senator Abdul underscored the necessity for adequate budgetary allocation to fulfill its educational mandate.
In a collaborative effort, the parliamentary committee recently engaged with the National Assembly's Budget and Appropriation Committee Chair, Ndindi Nyoro, to champion increased funding and assistance for Garissa University.
"We have engaged in discussion with the National Assembly's Budget and Appropriation Committee chair, Ndindi Nyoro, to advocate for increased funding and support for Garissa University," said Senator Abdul.
He said the collective vision is to secure resources that empower youth through quality education, fostering opportunities for growth and prosperity in the region.
Acknowledging the discussions, Ndindi Nyoro affirmed the university's requirements for resources to facilitate infrastructure upgrades, pledging continuous support for both the institution and broader development initiatives in the region.
"We will continually support the university and other development needs of the region," said Nyoro.
Established in 2011 through the elevation of Garissa Teachers Training College, Garissa University has since evolved into a fully-fledged institution with a current student enrollment of 2,000, attaining full university status in October 2017.
